Does renting equipment make sense for your restoration business? We certainly believe so. Please review the following considerations and develop your own conclusions.
As an IICRC Certified Firm, we have a responsibility to promote a healthy, ethical, educated and productive restoration industry. By sharing the following observations and providing equipment rental services to other restoration service companies, we believe we are accomplishing part of that responsibility.
We have operated our restoration services business for over 27 years. During that time, we have studied the strengths and weaknesses of the restoration industry and have noted that there are endemic issues that most restoration companies experience at one time or another.
Debt-Wary Companies. Many experienced and technically capable restoration companies tend to either stay at their present size or grow too slowly because they don’t like to take on new debt. That is a good thing, in principle, but it often means lost opportunities. Debt-Wary Companies usually have to turn down larger scale water damage jobs, or multiple simultaneous jobs, due to a lack of equipment inventory.
Next Level Companies. These are companies aggressively seeking growth to get them to their “next level” of volume, market share, influence and wealth. Next-Level Companies sometimes fall into two traps. #1 – The Large-Loss Trap: When a significant large loss opportunity comes along, the next-level company buys additional equipment, goes into debt, and hopes to pay for it from other, undefined future business. Inevitably, however, the new equipment sits unused for long periods, and the added debt burden puts a drag on operations for months and years to come. #2 – The CAT Event Trap: During a hurricane, large flood, large freeze, or other catastrophic (CAT) event. More often than not, though, the CAT event winds down earlier than expected, leaving the company saddled with long-term financing of excess equipment. Next-level companies struggle and often collapse under heavy debt burdens.
The Solution. Whether you’re a Debt-Wary Company with limited equipment, an aggressive Next-Level Company with limited equipment, or a ‘Normal Company’ looking for occasional opportunities, restoration equipment rental is the perfect solution! It’s really a simple concept – here are the basics:
Equipment rental not only generates an economic windfall, it generates a personal growth windfall, too. You and your company’s resume of work experiences increases, too, allowing you to pursue larger, more complicated engagements with the confidence that you can rent the equipment you need and get the job done properly!
